Life is hardly ever what we expected.
What’s on the other side of that door to life? It’s anyone’s guess, really.
Whether we were raised to believe fairy tales come true or thought all families were like the wholesome, happy ones we saw on TV growing up, each of us developed ways we thought our lives would go.
For most of us, life didn’t look anything like our expectations.
Oh, sure, some people did get the predictable outcome. Others got the fairy tale.
But most of us? We got something entirely different than we expected.
I’ve come to see that happiness depends on how good we are at setting aside those expectations and living the life we were given.
No matter what it is.
No matter.

I do agree with that. I see some living the fairy tale but for most of us, life has its challenges and wonderful surprises and we have to roll with both.
Yes, exactly. Rolling with both is key!
I’ve learned to let go of huge goals and expectations. Instead I try and let intuition (and that wonderful feeling of excitement and “tingles”) guide the way.
That is such a gift, Laurie! Such. a gift!
I don’t have expectations but I reach for what’s in my grasp!
I love that, Jennifer.
When I find my expectations getting out of line, I check myself. The pandemic has oddly made this easier for me. think it comes down to control which I realize I do not have. Thanks for the reminder!
Yes, I think control is a big part of it.
Me, too. I think expectations can be real bugaboos. Does anyone even use that word any more?
This is a hard lesson for many of us. Even the pandemic hasn’t succeeded in teaching it.
Truth, girl. So true.
If only we listened to the lessons…
I love this. I try not to have expectations. Usually, when you don’t the results and accompanying emotions are even better!
How very true that is, Estelle!
