When people say “don’t judge” I have to smile. It is nearly impossible for us to not judge. We are, after all, human.
But today’s mini-lesson on judgment from the late spiritual teacher Ram Dass is illuminating.
“Judge the action not the being.”
And then he takes it a step further: “Don’t ever put them out of your heart.”
This was a new way of thinking about people who push our buttons (for whatever reason). We don’t have to banish them from our hearts, even if we don’t want to be in their company.
He’s not saying don’t judge at all.
Judge the action. But hold the being in our hearts.
Namaste.
Simply put. Profound to implement.
yes and not that easy at all. Sadly.
Oh, I love Ram Dass. Thank you for reminding me to go read something or listen to something of his. He had such a great presence about him. And thank you for this mini-lesson from him. I don’t remember this phrase in particular, but it’s worth your post’s focus.
I find that I need constant reminders of this wisdom. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Karen!
