Maybe you don’t feel so powerful. Maybe you’re lost in what’s happening to you. Things that are out of your control. Maybe you see what’s going on in the world and wonder, what I can do to help change that?
Maybe you’re comparing your life to that of others and you think you come up short. You want what they have.
It’s true: there are many things in our lives that we can not change or control.
BUT.
We CAN make changes in how we see life. How we experience it. We can become more kind and considerate. We can access our human compassion.
We can act personally and politically. We can forgive. We can become more patient.
And we can be happy for the good fortune of others.
Does any of this resonate with you? It does for me.
Often I think about my dear, dear friend and her long illness. She’d been dealt a bad hand, while mine was much better. And yet, she never once uttered the words, “I’m jealous.” She was always genuinely happy for the good fortune of others. She never compared, even when she could have. Her view of life was broader.
More than once she’d say to me, “I don’t know what this disease is supposed to be teaching me.”
My response was always the same: “Maybe you’re not the one who’s supposed to be learning. Maybe WE are.”
And this is what she taught me: that our experience of our life is what we make it, no matter our circumstances. We’re that powerful.
That life presents us with opportunities to grow and access our power in ways we never imagined.
It’s my pleasure to share with you the life-changing lessons my dear friend’s life and death taught me.
Another way to harness the mind’s power is via hypnotherapy for pain and symptom management. Yes, even by Skype or Zoom. It can be super-effective. Contact me to talk about it: carol (at) ahealingspirit (dot) org.
The mind is an incredibly powerful thing, you’d be surprised what you can accomplish when you set your mind to things. It makes us powerful.
Positive thinking really makes a huge difference. I am chronically ill as well (I noted another commenter above mentioned this) and attitude can make or break a day.
I think being “powerful” is to be able to look at life at a different perspective. We can’t change fate, but we can change our attitude towards it.
My aunt, who lost her battle to brain cancer a year and a half ago, was a big believer in thinking positive. It really helped her a lot. I need to try thinking more positively. I’m a worst case scenario type of girl.
I am a very positive person even when people are being mean to me! There are times in life when people are just plain rude or doing something stupid like cutting in front of you but I have found that life is short and you need to just let it go otherwise you will spend your life worrying about the negative in life. Love your philosophy!!
I can relate to this post so much. I suffer from a chronic illness which is the main reason why I feel depressed at times, especially when I know there is no cure. Nevertheless, I get up everyday and do what I have to do, thankful that I have another day to live life.
It is so true- you can decide to be jealous or to be happy for others! I do tend to get a little down on myself when I see people enjoying things I wanted- but at the same time, I’m truly happy for them. I’m working on the self part!
Yes, it is all in the mind. It is the mind that makes or mars us. The power of positive thought needs to be harnessed for a better life.
I think the older we get (or maybe ‘mature’ is the right word) the easier these things get. Yes, though, I do think the mind is so powerful of a gift/thing.
Interesting concept to think about. Will keep an open mind to delving into this topic more.
If I ever try to think of how someone elses life is better or oh look what they have I look at myself and know I’m doing really well. I think the mind is such a powerful thing.
I think people don’t often use their full potential or realize how much they can control their own fate. I really do believe we have the power to do a lot.
I think that’s such a wonderful and positive message. It’s always been about perception especially when it comes to the challenges that we come across with in life. We should look at things differently and watch how much better it looks.
YES! I agree with what you said to your friend. Sometimes things happen to us so others can be healed, encouraged, reached, or help them deal with something in the future.
I agree with this SO MUCH!!!
I sometimes become jealous of other people but I look at my life and good fortune and know it is silly I wish people looked at others and were glad for what others have achieved and possess.
The mind is a powerful thing. It can destroy us, or it can lift us up to rise above the negatives.
Totally agree with you on this one. It really depends on us and how we take on life. Takes less than a second to react and do things differently for the greater good.
Yes, the mind is a powerful thing. Sometimes when I’m sick, I will my mind to make me feel better. Sometimes it works!
I agree that our minds are very powerful. Positive thinking can be a huge benefit to us if we stay positive.
What a nice friend of yours that really touch my heart. Spread the love and kindness to others no matter what life is.
Yes, it does so I take a step back and just sit and breathe and thank the Lord for all I have and figure out where I was going before this feeling hit.
Our minds are what set us apart from animals. Let us all use it for the better good. Not to spread hate and jealousy
