Thousands of studies have shown hypnotherapy to be a safe and effective way of helping accelerate healing, manage pain or anxiety, transforming grief. It can also be helpful for behavior modification, removing life obstacles and so much more. It does this by harnessing the mind/body connection and while science can’t yet explain how that works, it’s clear that it does work. While hypnosis is not a substitute for medical treatment, it works hand in hand with whatever medical treatment a patient is receiving. This combination of traditional medicine and holistic techniques is often called “integrative” and it’s becoming more and more accepted at major medical institutions.
One of the most interesting applications of hypnotherapy and visualization is in supporting positive outcomes in the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases. These techniques are also helpful for chronic pain, surgical outcome, anxiety and more.
A 2012 study showed hypnosis can be a highly effective treatment for IBS-irritable bowel syndrome. Studies showed that hypnotherapy alleviated symptoms in 40 percent of those affected — and that the improvement is long term. It’s also been effective in reducing hot flashes and postmenopausal symptoms according to researchers at Baylor University’s Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory.
One of my clients proved out a study at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center showing people who used hypnotic relaxation techniques during surgery needed less pain medication, left the operating room sooner, and had more stable vital signs during surgery. He had a similar and even better outcome during his surgery last spring.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a deep meditative state, much like the one we enter just before sleep. The barrier between the conscious and subconscious mind is removed, allowing us to bypass our critical mind and accept suggestions that can help effect change. Despite the popular image of hypnosis, the truth is you are always in control. In fact, it’s often said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You, with the help of your hypnotherapist, are responsible for what happens and in fact, I’ll teach you how to use hypnosis yourself, at home, to make sure changes are long-lasting.
Just about anyone can be hypnotized, even those who think they can’t be. Hypnosis is a common and universal experience: we all enter a hypnotic or trance state when we get lost in a daydream or zone out listening to favorite music in a car. If you lose track of your surroundings, even momentarily, it’s a form of trance. Most of us have experienced this. Hypnotherapy goes a step further: it allows you to use your mind to help make positive changes of just about any kind. Change can be seen in several sessions for some issues; other times it may take more. You’ll receive “homework” to help you reinforce that change.
And yes, you will remember what happened in your session. Professional hypnotherapy is quite different from what stage hypnotists do.
Just as champion athletes use visualization for a competitive edge, we can use hypnosis to reduce anxiety, help the body heal, control pain and release grief. That’s the focus of A Healing Spirit’s current products and services.

Grief is meant to be felt. Hypnotherapy can help if your grief has interfered with your life.
If your spiritual beliefs include contact with the other side, we can help you do that through facilitated after-death communication.
