Thousands of studies have shown hypnotherapy to be a safe and effective way of helping accelerate healing, manage pain or anxiety, transforming grief. It can also be helpful for behavior modification, removing life obstacles and so much more. It does this by harnessing the mind/body connection and while science can’t yet explain how that works, it’s clear that it does work. While hypnosis is not a substitute for medical treatment, it works hand in hand with whatever medical treatment a patient is receiving. This combination of traditional medicine and holistic techniques is often called “integrative” and it’s becoming more and more accepted at major medical institutions.
One of the most interesting applications of hypnotherapy and visualization is in supporting positive outcomes in the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases. These techniques are also helpful for chronic pain, surgical outcome, anxiety and more.
A 2012 study showed hypnosis can be a highly effective treatment for IBS-irritable bowel syndrome. Studies showed that hypnotherapy alleviated symptoms in 40 percent of those affected — and that the improvement is long term. It’s also been effective in reducing hot flashes and postmenopausal symptoms according to researchers at Baylor University’s Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory.
One of my clients proved out a study at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center showing people who used hypnotic relaxation techniques during surgery needed less pain medication, left the operating room sooner, and had more stable vital signs during surgery. He had a similar and even better outcome during his surgery last spring.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a deep meditative state, much like the one we enter just before sleep. The barrier between the conscious and subconscious mind is removed, allowing us to bypass our critical mind and accept suggestions that can help effect change. Despite the popular image of hypnosis, the truth is you are always in control. In fact, it’s often said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You, with the help of your hypnotherapist, are responsible for what happens and in fact, I’ll teach you how to use hypnosis yourself, at home, to make sure changes are long-lasting.
Just about anyone can be hypnotized, even those who think they can’t be. Hypnosis is a common and universal experience: we all enter a hypnotic or trance state when we get lost in a daydream or zone out listening to favorite music in a car. If you lose track of your surroundings, even momentarily, it’s a form of trance. Most of us have experienced this. Hypnotherapy goes a step further: it allows you to use your mind to help make positive changes of just about any kind. Change can be seen in several sessions for some issues; other times it may take more. You’ll receive “homework” to help you reinforce that change.
And yes, you will remember what happened in your session. Professional hypnotherapy is quite different from what stage hypnotists do.
Just as champion athletes use visualization for a competitive edge, we can use hypnosis to reduce anxiety, help the body heal, control pain and release grief. That’s the focus of A Healing Spirit’s current products and services.

While my training in Integrated Imagery allows me to work on any issue you might have, I have a special interest in working with clients on this issues:
I love teaching those in treatment to harness the mind to help the immune system kick into gear.
Pain & Symptom Management
Whether it’s a migraine, back pain or some other chronic pain or symptom, hypnotherapy can be an effective way to manage the condition.
Decades ago I learned first-hand how effective hypnosis could be for anxiety relief. Now I help clients manage anxiety, panic and stress symptoms.
Hypnosis is often used to help those who can not get to sleep or stay asleep.
Pre Surgical Preparation & Outcome
Even I have been surprised at how effective hypnotherapy is at calming patients before surgery, managing their pain and after and accelerating their healing. See the Testimonials tab
for a first-hand client experience.
Grief is meant to be felt. Hypnotherapy can help if your grief has interfered with your life.
If your spiritual beliefs include contact with the other side, we can help you do that through facilitated after-death communication.
Phobias & Traumatic Experiences
Hypnotherapy has been used for decades to help manage response to trauma or phobias of all kinds, from fear of flying, claustrophobia, fear of heights and more. (For traumatic experiences, including alien abductions, see our Regressions page.) Since each client’s situation and its roots are different, we’ll have a preliminary session to dig into the specifics. Then, depending on individual need, for phobias we’ll have up to six sessions of customized-for-you hypnotherapy to help you learn to manage the phobia. Nothing generic or off-the-shelf: specific to YOUR feelings. In some cases and depending on personal belief, a past life regression might be tremendously helpful in identifying the roots of a phobia and managing or even eradicating it. Call Carol to discuss your situation and what might be helpful.
How to book hypnotherapy:
If you’d like to try one-on-one hypnotherapy as part of a specific disease- or pain-management program or for any other reason, contact ccassara(at)gmail.com and she’ll set up a time to talk about the possibilities. Distance is not a factor: We do many sessions via Skype and Skype hypnosis can be very effective. In-person sessions are held in the San Jose, Calif. area. Limited availability is possible in other cities when Carol is traveling.
Payment is always made in advance of the session. An appointment time is not confirmed until payment is made. Until then, that time can be given to another client.
Sessions are conducted in packages of four or eight. A package of eight sessions provides significant savings. Please talk to Carol before booking packages as needs differ depending on the issue we will address. Session prices include an intake telephone appointment prior to meeting in person or via Skype, all preparation and sometimes will including calls or emails between sessions..
After an initial phone call with Carol to discuss your objectives and what is possible, you’ll schedule your first session. She’ll send you a release form and required disclosure that must be completed and returned three days before your session.
Fees are per package, regardless of duration, paid at the time of booking via Paypal. Full refunds are given for cancellations up to 24 hours before the appointment. A refund of 50% is given for a same-day cancellation up to two hours before the appointment. No refunds are given for no-shows. A hypnotherapy client is considered a “no-show” if s/he is 15 minutes late, as the hour has been reserved and services will take a minimum of 45 minutes. Fees may change without notice, but clients pay the fee that is in place at the time of booking.
Hypnotherapy clients are required to record each session to use as homework between meetings. Download a free smart recorder to your phone. If you would like Carol to record, modify & send to you, there is a $25 fee. Please add “RECORDING” to your shopping cart.
