mindfulness

We hear a lot about mindfulness as it relates to just about everything. It’s easy to get intimidated by the idea of an entire “mindfulness practice.”  We forget that we can take quick calming and refreshing mindful breaks any time with the same benefit and without worrying about missing a day. Here’s how:

Sit wherever you are. Anywhere. In your living room. In your yard. Out in the world. On a hike. You can even be in  your kitchen.

Stop what you’re doing and take a deep breath in…and then let it go. Use all your senses to go into the moment.

Really look at what’s around you: plants, shadows, cups or bowls, a flowerpot, a pen,  coffee. Take another deep breath and notice what you smell.

If you’re outside, gently touch a flower. How does it feel? Is there a breeze against your skin?

If you’re inside, feel the soft fur of your pet or even the smooth surface of a spoon. Run cool water between your fingers. Take a sip of tea and savor the flavors. Feel the warmth as it travels down your body.

Continue to take deep, slow breaths. Just enter the moment and appreciate your connection with all things –animate and inanimate. Even a rock. Meditation can be this easy. You don’t need an official “practice.”

Enjoy that feeling for a few minutes and then, simply go back to what you were doing.

That’s it. Your mindful moment to instantly calm and refresh yourself.

Try it!

Just a reminder that I make and market some absolutely beautiful candles that are great meditation tools. Find them right here.
