My soup on the stove.
If you’ve got a head cold or sinus headache, there’s nothing you want more than to clear your head and regain a little bit more sharp thinking. Here’s what I do to feel better when I’ve got a cold:
I make a quick soup full of antioxidants for breakfast. Soup for breakfast? Believe me, if you’ve got a head cold, this will sound really good.
Here’s what I usually have on hand in my house:
Salt-free chicken broth
Steamed broccoli, organic carrots and garlic
Having steamed vegetables on hand is a cooking shortcut I learned long ago. That makes it super easy to heat up a quick bowl of hot soup full of antioxidants and the healing magic that gave chicken soup the name “Jewish penicillin.”
I put it all in a pan and heat it up. The warm broth and steam help clear nasal passages. Yes, it’s as easy as that.
You can also add tomatoes and potatoes or any other vegetable that is high in antioxidants. And of course, you can add chicken!
There you have it. If you’ve got any easy things you do that make you feel better when you have a cold, I hope you will share in the comments below.
I like the idea (see my post this week) of making sure that we have protein and nutritious foods at breakfast. And your point, especially when we aren’t feeling well. To often breakfast is carbs which don’t support our ability to HAVE A GOOD DAY. WE need complex carbs that last, not sugar.
Sounds good! A friend of mine eats for breakfast bone broth. With all the protein in it he says it keeps him satiated.
